Congratulations to Bharath Ramsundar, winner of the 2012 Departmental Citation for Mathematics. This recognition is bestowed on the top undergraduate mathematics scholar in the graduating class. The name of the citation winner will be placed with those of earlier winners on the Departmental Citation certificate in 1015 Evans.

The Simons Fellowship allows a faculty member to extend a semester of sabbatical to a full year, and thus extend their term of research. Congratulations Professors Agol, Slaman, and Tataru!
The new "Raymond and Beverly Sackler Chair in Computational Biology" will enable Professor Pachter to continue to build ties between the Departments of Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, and Computer Science. Congratulations Professor Pachter!

Professors Demmel and Holtz's paper, "Minimizing communication in numerical linear algebra," which can be found in the SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 32: 866-901, 2011, is one of two winners of the SIAG/LA best paper competition.
