"SAGE - Software for Algebra and Geometry Experimentation"
Monday, August 28
60 Evans - 4:10-5:00pm
Abstract: If Serge Lang used computers for mathematics research, I suspect that he would be passionately in favor of open source software and maybe even more passionately against closed source mathematics software. I have spent the last two years working very hard (primarily with undergraduates!) to unify and make easy to use free open source software for mathematics research. In this talk, I will explain the philosophy behind this new software, and illustrate it with many concrete examples related to elliptic curves and the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture.
The lecture will be preceded by a special tea in memory of Serge Lang in 1015 Evans.
